Wrap in hope

THE man who saw his Presidential hopes dashed by the controversy surrounding the RTE Frontline Presidential debate show at the beginning of the year has said it is time to move on and return to our basic values, to a time when people lived for each other and helped each other.
Former Presidential candidate Sean Gallagher, who was in Ardee on Sunday evening to launch a book by a local author, declined to comment on the controversy over the RTE ‘working document’ on its Frontline programme and the criticism of RTE by the Broadcasting Association of Ireland (BAI).
Mr Gallagher launched two books by Patrice Reynolds from Stabannon and formerly of Ardee.
Addressing a large gathering at McCabe’s showrooms, he said that when people face setbacks they very often emerge stronger.
“In the current challenging times,” he said, “people are returning to a common decency and in that we are beginning to see people work together.”
Patrice Reynolds launched her novel Wrapped in Hope and its companion book Inside Out, a collection of her photography and poems.
Mr Gallagher went on to say that people are the authors of their own lives.
“Life is a gift you have been given and it is important that you do not die with your song still in you,” he said.
“With these books Patrice has begun to sing her song. This is a story of people who face adversity with great courage.
“And it’s great to have someone write such an uplifting story in these times when so many people are struggling,” he said.
He also said he was delighted to see Fr Oliver Brennan at the launch and he thanked Fr Brennan for his message of hope.
Fr Brennan, a native of Ardee and former PP of Blackrock, has just been appointed parish priest of Kilmore in county Armagh. Fr Brennan also spoke at the launch.
