Teen work of art for sculpture garden

A new “Peace of Art” funded community project for 16 to 18year olds is set to begin on Tuesday 6 November ast Creative Spark on Clontygora, Muirhevnamor.

The course is set to last 7 weeks and will give local youngster the chance to create their own work of art for a new sculpture garden in Muirhevnamor Community Gadrens.

Speaking to the Dundlak Democrat, Sophie Coyle told the paper: “Our participants will create a design for a new sculpture garden in the Muirhevnamor Community Gardens, guided by “Rubbish Artist” Uli Liebetrau, garden designer and project co-ordinator Sophie Coyle and organic grower Damien O’Callaghan, and work in teams to build sculptures with a peace theme out of recycled and salvaged materials.

“The finished sculptures will be put on permanent display in the community gardens with an exhibition opening in December. The project finishes up with a group trip to celebrate the achievement.”

The project is supported by the European Union’s PEACE III Programme as awarded by Louth Peace and Reconciliation Partnership. The Project is managed by Co. Louth VEC’s PEACE III funded Peace of Art Project. Sophie Coyle’s role is funded by the IFI through Creative Spark.

The Special EU Programmes Body is a North/South Implementation Body sponsored by the Department of Finance and Personnel in Northern Ireland and the Department of Finance in Ireland. It is responsible for managing two EU structural funds Programmes PEACE III and INTERREG IV designed to enhance cross-border co-operation, promote reconciliation and create a more peaceful and prosperous society. The Programmes operate within a clearly defined area including Northern Ireland, the Border Region of Ireland and Western Scotland.

The classes will run between 5pm and 7pm.
