Gruesome discovery of body in burnt-out car not necessarily linked to Det Donohoe murder case
A full scale forensic examination is underway this morning at Gyles Quay after the gruesome discovery of the freshly charred remains of a body in a burnet-out car at the quay side carpark.
The State Pathologist Marie Cassidy is due at the scene at this morning following the grisly discovery.
Locals were alerted to the car yesterday evening, when they saw the car parked in the carpark.
It is initially thought that it was a courting couple, but the fire brigade was called when the car burst into flames.
At approximately 7.15pm the fire brigade came to extinguish the blaze, only to find the remains of a human body in burnt out wreckage of the car.
The road to Gyles Quay was closed off yesterday, while a blue forensic tent was erected over the shell of the burned out car.
Gardaí stood guard over the site last night, in preparation for the arrival of the State Pathologist Marie Cassidy.
The discovery has been made all the more shocking due to the proximity to where Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe was shot and killed in a fatal robbery five weeks ago.
Gardaí have however said that there is nothing yet to suggest a link between the two incidents.
