Something worth remembering this Christmas is to help support local businesses by ‘Keeping it Local’.

Shopping locally this season will be of huge benefit and is intrinsic to supporting a successful and sustainable local economy.

Where we shop, where we eat and have fun -- all of it makes our community home. Our one-of-a-kind businesses are an integral part of the distinctive character of this place.

Local businesses were usually built from the ground up, with care and tenacity, sweat and tears and they honestly tend to care more about their customers who have helped make them so successful.

So in the run up to Christmas this year make a commitment to purchase your Christmas gifts and Christmas food locally.

If you are making any large purchases get a quote from a local business — I’m sure you will be pleasantly surprised at how competitive they are.

Some other Christmas tips to keep in mind are:

-Take advantage of any gift-wrapping present services, this will save you a few pennies and time.

- Christmas may be all about the children but that doesn’t mean they will appreciate being dragged around the shops.

If possible try to leave them with a friend or relative, it will mean less stress for you.
