Senior team in regional final
A strong tradition of inter-school debating “as Gaeilge” has existed in Dún Lughaidh for many years and that tradition continues with the recent participation of both a Junior and a Senior team in the Regional Semi-finals in Drogheda.
The Junior team of Éabha Short, Aoife Kindlon and Rachel Byrne debated the motion that farmers in Ireland have a great life (“Is aoibhinn beatha an fheirmeora in Éirinn”).
Despite being busy with mock exams, the girls had prepared very well and argued strongly against the motion.
Unfortunately, the team did not make it through to the next round but the girls can be very proud of their achievements in the competition this year.
In the Senior debate, the team of Aideen Culligan, Éabha Taggart and Ciara Quigley opposed the motion that the Gathering 2013 is a scam (“Camscéim atá i dTóstal Éireann 2013”).
The four schools participating (St. Louis, De La Salle Dundalk, Mount Anville Dublin and Holy Child Killiney) had excellent speakers and a lively and entertaining debate ensued.
The standard of argument was very high and there was great delight when the adjudicator announced that both De La Salle and St. Louis would progress to the Regional Final.
Preparations are already underway for this next challenge which takes place in Drogheda on Monday 4th March.
