Scoil Ui Mhuiri hold TY business evening

THE Transition Year students at Scoil Ui Mhuiri held their annual business project evening recently.

This is an annual event, an opportunity for the enterprising students to show the ideas and projects they have come up with.

Based on the Dragon’s Den idea, the students come up with an original business project, make the product themselves and then try to find a market.

A lot of work goes into the design and marketing of these products and the students are to be congratulated on their creativity and industry.

Scoil Ui Mhuiri has developed over the past decade into one of the most progressive VEC schools in the county.

The school is at the design stage for a sizeable extension.

It is hoped it will be ready to accept students by September 2014.

The school development will joined by an adjoining sports development.

The VEC plan to build a sporting campus on a seven acre site next to Scoil Ui Mhuiri.

The VEC project will include a 400m running track, a football pitch, jogging track, tennis courts, javelin, high-jump, long-jump and shot putt facilities, changing rooms, and floodlighting.

Dr Pádraig Kirk of Louth VEC said a lot of effort has been put into the plan and he has thanked everybody for their support of the project including the VEC, the members of Dunleer Athletics Club and local representatives, as well as the school and the people of Dunleer.

The school opened back in 1954 with just a handful of pupils.

The students now have connections with all parts of Europe.

Indeed an international day was held there last year which proved very successful.

So well done Scoil Ui Mhuiri.
