Reckless diesel dumping must stop
After yet another incident of dumping of cubes of diesel sludge, Louth County Councillor Tomás Sharkey has called on those responsible to “cop on” and stop putting the environment and health at risk.
The Sinn Féin Councillor said
“Last Friday night cubes or IBCs of laundering waste were dumped on the side of the road in the Rassan area of North Louth. They were dumped recklessly and it is a miracle that they didn’t split open.
“This dumping puts the environment at risk, it puts cattle and farmland in danger and it threatens the health of our community. I am asking those responsible to take a serious look at what they are doing. It is inevitable that their actions will cause serious damage and it is only a matter of time before they are caught in the act by the authorities.
“Council resources are scarce. It is getting harder and harder to secure funding to fix roads and drains across Louth. The clean up of this dumping is costing money that is needed for other work.”
