Recession hits Fianna Fáil posters as logo shrinks

The logo on Fianna Fáil posters is so small, not many people can tell what party the candidate is running for.

A former Fianna Fail director of elections in the county, Cllr Liam Reilly has explained that the party's posters are smaller than those of other parties and they were designed by party headquarters.

Fianna Fail Cllr Thomas Clare, who like Cllr Reilly is standing for re-election in mid-Louth, said posters shouldn't be allowed at all.

"I had a motion before Louth County Council calling for them to be limited to one area which was laughed at by other councillors.

"In Germany they have a mobile hoarding system and I don't think in this electronic age we really need posters."

Cllr Clare has raised the wrath of his own Fianna Fail colleagues on this poster issue, but he does admit that two days before the election he may be forced to join the majority and put one up.

Cllr Declan Breathnach (FF) said most of his posters are re-cycled Fianna Fail posters and show clearly that he is running for the county council.

So clearly Fianna Fail are not wasting wood, are eco-friendly and have no intention of withdrawing their posters because people can't see the party logo.

The Greens' posters were to have come from a renewable tree source but will cost €150,000 to replace. For every tree used, six will be planted.

The way things are going for the governing parties it might be more than trees that get planted.

THE Green Party has recalled nearly 13,000 election posters because the wood used to produce them has not been up to standard.

The party's local election candidates opted for eco-friendly election posters, but they disintegrated in the strong winds over the weekend.

Could this be a sign? Are the winds of change about to arrive?
