Rain fall could be record says local met man

THE rain that fell in Dundalk on Monday could possibly be a record, according to one local amateur weather observer.

Jonathan Scales, from Riverwell Close in Toberona, calculated that 87.5mm of rainfall fell in Dundalk on Monday.

That's the highest amount of rainfall since he established his home weather station in 2008 but Jonathan also believes that it may be an overall record.

"It's certainly the highest there has been since I set this up in November 2008. It's one of the highest amounts of rainfall ever recorded in 24 hours and as far as I know it is close to being a near all-time record for this area.

"I've certainly never seen the like of it before," he said.

Jonathan's home weather station is one of the Ireland's Weather Network amateur weather stations which can be viewed at www.irelandsweather.com. His station uploads live data to it while his own site updates every five minutes.

Jonathan's local weather date for Dundalk tracks everything from temperatures, windspeeds, windspeed temperatures, rainfall, humidity and pressure changes.

The rainfall he recorded in Dundalk of 87.5mm was more than anywhere else in the country on Monday when compared with Met Eireann's data.

Jonathan's weather site can be viewed at http://www.freewebtown.com/buffitandbluffitdesigns/DK%20Weather/ or through his site www.buffitandbluffitdesigns.com.
