Parents are giving me a hard time about school. A special by the Life Apprentice, Conal McKeever
Dear Life Doctor, my parents are getting on my case about school and I don't know what to do any more.
I am 18 and in my final year of the Leaving Certificate and I'm very stressed and unhappy at the moment.
I have tried talking to my parents about why school isn't going well but they won't listen. I could try harder I suppose, but these days I just find learning and studying very hard especially maths and sciences, which are extremely difficult for me.
I think I might have learning disabilities but if I tell my parents they will only see it as an excuse. What should I do? Every time I tell them something they just tell me to work harder and it is not encouraging me what-so-ever.
These days to escape, I just play FIFA online when I'm supposed to be studying as it passes the time for me.
Matthew, 18.
Dear Matthew, as it is my first week of being the Life Doctor Apprentice, I will just tell the truth, you are a lazy idiot.
And before you get all wishy-washy with me, complaining that I'm also coming down hard on you, perhaps you should read back your own letter where you state this: "I could try harder I suppose."
What does that say about you? It says that you are a bum, a lazy, lethargic bum.
No wonder your parents give you a hard time. If I was your old boy, I would take the biggest schoolbook you have and beat you around the head with it until it knocked some common sense into you.
But I suppose that would take a while because you are thicker than a concrete wall mate.
Also, instead of actually studying and trying to understand the problems you have in school, you sit on your backside and play FIFA online? Well give me your online name and I'll knock the fun out of that for you too as I would whip you online so bad, that it would make you want to study instead.
Playing FIFA online will not get you any points in the Leaving Certificate because the last time I checked, being a geek that is great at FIFA online was not on the curriculum. I mean what do you think is going to happen with all these online games.
Because you play it so much, do you think the people who made the game is going to call to your house and offer you a job or something? If so, then you are a bit of a loser, living in fantasy land.
Here is my tip for you, how about actually opening a book. That should be your first step. The next one would be to read some sentences and drill it into your peanut sized brain. Then again, your obviously that lazy, that you probably want someone else to do this work for you.
