The arrival of Parcel Motel at Texaco Dundalk, Dublin Road allows consumers to have their goods delivered to a location that is convenient for them to collect at any time with no more missed deliveries or spoilt surprises for Christmas presents this year.

Over half of Irish people who shop online instead of with high street retailers state the main reasons they do so is because it is ‘more convenient’ and ‘goods are cheaper’, according to a survey carried out by Nightline, Ireland’s largest independent delivery service.

Other popular reasons include ‘the range of products available is better than high street shops’ and convenience.

Over 30% of those surveyed (33%) stated that ‘waiting’ and the ‘uncertainty’ of whether their parcels will arrive on time or at all, was the worst part of shopping online.

This uncertainty can quickly turn to frustration with nearly 20% (18%) of respondents rating ‘having to arrange a pick up’ if delivery has been missed as a top pet peeve.

To use the Nightline Parcel Motel service, consumers are first required to set-up an account online at www.parcelmotel.com where they select the unit location most convenient to them.

Then when purchasing goods online, the consumer enters the Nightline Parcel Motel address rather than their home address.

Nightline will deliver the consumer’s goods to their chosen Parcel Motel and the consumer will receive a text message containing a unique code, advising them that their parcel is ready for collection.

Users can register at www.parcelmotel.com and get their first two parcel stays free.

Two elements that cause frustration for Irish consumers when shopping from some UK retailers are the availability of free delivery, which is offered to UK shoppers, and not being able to avail of delivery outside of the UK at all.

Nightline Parcel Motel is the perfect solution to both these frustrations.

When a consumer now orders online from a UK retailer, they simply enter Nightline’s Belfast address, ensuring delivery of the items to their local Parcel Motel.

John Tuohy, CEO Nightline added:

“The essence of what we are doing with the roll-out of Parcel Motel is making online shopping easier and cheaper for consumers.

Consumers, who use the service when making a purchase online from retailers here or in the UK, can now pick up their goods at a unit convenient to them and at a time that suits their schedules.

“Given the number of working people who shop online but don’t want to arrange their working day around waiting for a delivery, we have no doubt Parcel Motel will be an extremely popular service in Louth.”
