Over 70 groups in today's big St Patrick's Day parade

THERE will be over 70 participating groups involved in this year's St Patrick's Day Parade in Dundalk.

Events get underway from 1pm at Patrick Street with the parade proceeding onto Church Street, Clanbrassil Street, The Square, The Demesne and Park Street.

Among the participants are Grand Marshal Jim McLaughlin, Louth Rose Linda Halpenny, Dundalk Sub Aqua Club, Carlingford leprechauns, Geraldine's School of Speech and Drama, Dundalk FC, Carlingford Pipe Band, Grace Fellowship, Bryan Oliver's cars, Knockbridge Vintage Club and many more. The parade will be led by lone piper Paddy Martin.

The post parade entertainment will include a bouncy castle village at the Demesne with various inflatables to suit all age groups.A host of local producers will have food, jewellery, cheese, chocolates, cakes and much, much more for sale at Market Square while face painting and street entertainment will take place on Earl Street.

There will also be a host of activities in the Marshes Shopping Centre.

From 2.45pm the Ceili Mor will take place in the Town Hall while there will be a number of live acts performing at Dundalk Courthouse including the Northern Ireland Friendship Band, Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Dun Dealgan, The Fontanels, The Curtain Thieves and Red Twelve.

Motorists are advised there will be road diversions in operation as a result of the parade from 12 Noon to 2pm on St Patrick's Day.

Meanwhile, Dundalk Town Council chairman Cllr Martin Bellew and Louth County Council chairman Cllr Jim D'Arcy will be representing Dundalk in the St Patrick's Day parade in New York City. Minister for Justice Dermot Ahern TD will be in Paris to sample France's St Patrick's Day festivities.
