One thousand euros worth of drugs found during search of man’s home in Dundalk
Thomas Cassidy (47), Cois Dalgan, Dundalk was charged with unlawful possession of drugs and possession for sale or supply on October 6.
Inspector Martin Beggy told the court that Gardai came across defendant in the street and when they searched him found a small quantity of cannabis.
The Gardai got a search warrant and when they went to defendant’s home he identified a number of locations in it where drugs were stored.
The total value of what was found was e1,000. He had no previous convictions.
The defendant’s solicitor, Mr Kiernan said his client had left the Army six years ago.
He had worked for a time as a builder but was now unemployed.
He said that defendant had told him that he had a sore back and that cannabis helped him sleep.
He was very embarrassed about what had happened, especially in view of his previous good character.
Judge Flann Brennan ordered defendant to complete 120 hours community service.
