Olympic success will help boost further sales and jobs growth for Horseware

A Co Louth company has emerged as one of the big medal winners at the Olympic Games.
Horseware Ireland, which manufactures horse rugs and other products for the horse and equestrian sector, sponsored eight medal winners at the recent games in London including Ireland Bronze Medal Winner Cian O Connor.
The company which is the number one manufacturer of horse rugs in the world has seen employment at its Dundalk headquarters grow to 125 in spite of the recession, an increase of 50% since 2009.
CEO Tom MacGuinness has predicted the Olympic success will help boost further sales and jobs growth for the Irish multinational.
Mr. MacGuinness was speaking at the official opening of the company ‘s new Central Distribution Warehouse in Brookville Business Park, Dundalk,Co. Louth.
Established in Dundalk in 1985, Horseware Ireland is the equestrian world’s leading supplier of horse clothing, caring for valuable bloodstock and sport horses worldwide. This year the company will turnover close to w30 million.
“The rapid growth of our business in USA, UK and Continental Europe, and the need for world class speed of response has convinced us to consolidate all our warehousing into one large 100,000 sq foot state of the art facility, proudly located here in Dundalk. This is a significant strategic step for Horseware,” said Horseware Ireland CEO Tom MacGuinness.
While the company is vertically integrated, with plants in China, Cambodia and the USA, the Irish HQ manufactures the Company’s higher value products, and is the centre of all R&D, design, marketing and administration. Horseware also has expanded into lifestyle equestrian clothing and innovative equine healthcare.
The equine sector is one of few indigenous areas where Ireland has an international competitive advantage. The nation is world renowned for breeding and producing quality horses. Enterprise Ireland has designated the entire equine sector as one of high export potential.
