Noel's latest poetry book is released
NOEL SHARKEY, local author and historian, has released his latest book of poetry 'Hush the Woods are Listening' in aid of the Birches Alzheimer Association in Dundalk.
Priced at r5 this is the second in a series of three planned volumes of poetry based on parish life, both past and present. Noels latest poetic offering includes familiar titles such as 'Walking Home from Haggardstown School', 'Pavillion Interlude', 'The Mullaharlin Mass Rock' and 'The Bells of St. Fursey's Church'.
A previous volume of poetry entitled 'Water from an Ancient Well' succeeded in raising r1,700 for the local charity and two further books by the same author, 'The Parish of Haggardstown and Blackrock – A History' and 'The Parish of Haggardstown and Blackrock – A Pictorial Record' raised a total of r14,000.
According to the author, his inspiration came from life in the parish from when he was born in Crumlin on the Mullaharlin Road to his present life in Blackrock "The poems are inspired by life in the parish. I was reared in the country and the country is in my DNA from working on the farms, walking to and from school, my father bringing the horses to be shod on the Dublin Road. I write about what I know".
Noel would like to thank Frank Lynch for his generosity in sponsoring his latest edition of poetry along with his previous three books in aid of the Birches Alzheimer Association as well as his wife Marian, his mother Moira and his four sons for unwavering support over the last 13 years.
Noel will present a talk and accompanying slide show on the history of the parish of Blackrock and Haggardstown in the County Library, Dundalk on Thursday October 1st.
Entry is free and the presentation will cover the history of the parish to present times and will include some previously unseen images.
