Mysterious red light spotted in Dundalk night sky? UFO or just unusual aircraft?

Dundalk residents were left gazing into the unknown on Wednesday night as a mysterious red light appeared in the sky.

Amidst all the snow drama that has brought much of the county to a standstill, there was room for a close encounter of the strange kind as a Dundalk family left their house to go and view the light.

Despite the freezing weather conditions, the family from Father Murray Park went outside and were amazed by the erratic light in the sky.

Speaking on the light, one member of the family said: " It was very freaky. My mother came running down from the hall shouting at us to get out onto the street. We did not know what was wrong. I thought there might have been an accident so we went onto the street and there was this medium sized red light, but it was flying really low in the sky.

"From first glance, it was like a plane on fire or something, but then it started to get higher and higher, then, suddenly it disappeared. It was mad."

According to the resident, it was like nothing he had ever seen.

"We were thinking that it could have been a plane, but it wasn't. Well it could have been, but planes don't have that type of light, not that bright and certainly not as big as what we saw."
