More companies in food sector interested in Dundalk area
ON the back of last Wednesday's announcement that Australian healthcare company Probiotic Limited is to establish their European manufacturing headquarters in Dundalk, Enterprise Ireland's Conor Fahy insists that more companies in the food industry have expressed an interest in locating in this region.
The Director of Entrepreneurship for the Border region played his part in convincing Probiotic to produce its range of weight management and other food products here and he told The Dundalk Democrat last week that they may not be the last to move into this area.
"I was asked last week on local radio were they any other projects in the pipeline and the reality is yes there are," said Mr Fahy.
"We've had a number of site visits from the food industry in the past six months and there are definitely a few potential prospects who are really interested in locating in the North East."
Fahy said that Dundalk and the entire North East region had plenty to offer any company looking to locate here.
"This area has always had a good reputation as having a good skill set of workers. That's developed from people working in the likes of Coca Cola and the Diageo and the fact there is a lot of experience of the food industry here is an attractive thing to a company looking for a new location.
"There's also good raw materials and transport here and now that Probiotic have decided to locate here hopefully others will follow.
"They're the type of company you want to be attracting because they've come a long way in a short space of time from a small start up in Australia to selling in Europe. They could've went anywhere else but they chose here because of the skill set of workers available here.
"When they came to us originally their project was a lot smaller but they saw that they could grow it based on what was available to them here and they now hope to embed themselves in this year. They've also said they'd like to deal with local suppliers so it's definitely a massive boost for this area," he said.
