Man lost spleen in knife attack
A resident of Carrickmacrosss stabbed a man at a party in Dublin after a row between the pair escalated following an earlier dispute.
Lee Healy (20), formerly of Sorrell Health, Clonsilla, Dublin, but now a resident in Carrickmacross was jailed for two years with the final two years suspended.
Healy, who was 17 at the time was attending a party where he spoke to a Jake Gordon, with whom he shared a mutal friend and whom he had known for several years.
The pair got into an argument which was subsequently resolved.
The party then moved to another house where both parties continued to drink heavily.
At the second party the pair renewed hostilities, where upon Healy took a steak knife and stabbed Gordon three times: twice in the back and one to his torso.
The victim was taken to hospital where his spleen was removed. He will now have to live taking three pills a day in order to avoid infection.
Healy later came to the Garda Station with his mother and gave a full statement. He co-operated fully and had no previous convictions, nor did he come to the attention of the Gardaí again.
No victim impact statement was presented by Mr Gordon who is now living a normal life.
The judge in the case, Judge Martin Nolan, said that jail was unavoidable for such a serious crime but he said that he did not believe that Healy presented a risk of reoffending.
