M.A.D Youth theatre perform play to raise suicide awareness

M.A.D Youth theatre are doing their part in helping to raise teen suicide awareness by performing ‘Chatroom’, a dark comedy written by Enda Walsh.

The play is also M.A.D Youth Theatre’s first production as a youth theatre and they promise they will not disppoint.

The dark comedy looks at what happens when personalities are let loose in the precarious world of internet chat rooms.

The play involves six teenagers who are in an internet chatroom.

One of the teenagers Jim is depressed and talks of ending his life.

Two of the other teenagers in the chatrrom, Eva and William, do their utmost to persuade him to carry out his threat.

From this chilling premise Enda Walsh has forged a funny, compelling and uplifting play which tackles some of the issues of teenage life head-on and with great understanding.

The play describes very relevant issues young people face today, with Twitter, Facebook and other social networking and chatroom sites being the new playground for bullies.

‘Chatroom’ gives you a look into what happens when the bedroom door of a teenager is closed and they are logged on.

M.A.D Youth Theatre Youth hope the play will help to raise awareness of teen suicide and they hope that a lot of people will be able to relate to it’s “realness”.

The play will be performed in the Louth County Museum AV Theatre from October 24th-27th.

Tickets cost 5 euro and can be purchased at the door on the night or from the Dundalk Youth Centre and Coffee Room (Starbucks).
