Louth TD speaks about living with Crohn’s disease

Labour TD Gerald Nash spoke at last Saturday’s Irish Society of Crohn’s & Colitis event in the Crowne Plaza in Dundalk.

The event was addressed by top gastroenterologists and other experts. Over 100 people were in attendance.

Crohn’s Disease and ulcerative colitis are chronic conditions of the digestive system. It is thought that up to 15,000 Irish people have these conditions.

Deputy Nash said, “I was delighted to accept the invitation from the ISCC to speak about living with Crohn’s Disease. I was diagnosed with the chronic condition in 1990, at 14 years of age.

“I spoke about the importance of busting some of the myths about Crohn’s and colitis and ensuring that people get the supports and help that they need to live full and happy lives.

“This should include the inclusion of Inflammatory Bowel Disease on the list of long term illnesses by the Department of Health and I will be continuing my work with the ISCC in this regard in the coming weeks and months.”

More information on Crohn’s and colitis can be accessed at www.iscc.ie
