OVER 150 of Louth’s most enterprising minds came together at the Crowne Plaza Dundalk to look at various ideas for the county’s involvement in The Gathering 2013.
The Gathering 2013 aims to attract 325,000 additional tourists to Ireland, with Louth hoping to attract as many as 25,000.
The Gathering is supported by Fáilte Ireland and Tourism Ireland and Louth Local Authorities.

Colm Corrigan of LMFM radio hosted the evening at the Crowne Plaza as Louth people from all walks of life including hospitality, business, volunteers and entertainment joined the think-in.

It was led by the Louth Gathering steering group. The chairman of the group Gavin Duffy said that following a conversation with a colleague in Boston he organised a visit by Boston business people to Louth in May of next year.
Ideas put forward at the Crowne Plaza meeting include: a GAA festival, harbour festivals, a Louth genealogy centre, old industry reunions, concerts, a Poc Fada festival, a Viking gathering, a Hibernian choral festival with a us link, A Louth and Proud food festival, postcard campaigns and an expansion of the existing Táin March.
It was also revealed that Louth will host the 2013 World Youth Fly Fishing Championship which has the potential to bring 500 extra visitors to the county next year.
Mark Rowlette from Fáilte Ireland and Adrian O’Sullivan from Louth Local Authorities said they were absolutely delighted by the numbers who came out in support of Louth’s involvement in The Gathering.
They said it was a clear message that people want to be involved in The Gathering effort and have some very clear ideas about what they can do, and in one case, are already doing.
