Students in O’Fiaich College have reached the Regional Finals of the Transition Year Short Film Competition run by The Gathering and Bank of Ireland.

The students involved, Kinga Wojciechowska and Nancy Ueasukpakdee, helped put Carlingford on the map with their short film simply entitled ‘Carlingford’.

They made their video as part of their Media Studies module on their iPads using the iMovie App.

Their video shows footage of historical castles and buildings, different restaurants, pubs and activities. It highlights Carlingford in a favourable way for The Gathering 2013.

The girls were in competition with schools from Dublin, Monaghan, Meath, Louth, North Kildare and North Wicklow.

The Top Ten films were selected from 100 entries for this region. The films were selected in terms of creativity, originality, innovation, appeal to viewers and film editing.

Among the schools selected to present to the judges were Wesley College, Notre Dame Secondary School, Portmarnock Community School and O’Fiaich College.

This was a fantastic achievement for the students involved as they had only started working with iPads in September.

To be shortlisted for the Regional Final has not just put Carlingford on the map but also O’Fiaich College Transition Year students.

The students involved said, “We really enjoyed making this film and hope that after people watch our video it will encourage them to come to Carlingford” .
