Ireland's next smash hit boy band, 'Clozure' launched their first single last week and for two local lads, they are hoping it is the first step to super-stardom.

Andrew Rice, 21, from Kilkerley and Ryan Davis, 20, from Castleblayney, are part of the quintet, who are looking to be Ireland's next Westlife.

Their debut single, 'Simple Thing' stormed the download music charts all the way to the number one spot and now the boys are looking forward to touring the country.

Andrew, a former pupil of St Mary's College said: “We played at the Eoghan Quigg show in Dundalk and it was fantastic. Now we are working towards an album and looking forward to the shows.”

Paul Hughes and Jo Petit make up the quintet, who formed only two months ago.

Andrew said: “A few of us were at college but it was hard financially so we met Joe and decided to give it a go as a boy band rather than individually. We sounded good together so we decided to give a go.

Ryan, from Castle-blayney was studying Civil Engineering up at DkIT but he has opted to try his hand at the popworld instead.

He said: “We have done a few demos and we have already shot our first video and with a few gigs planned, we feel the only way to go is up. Hopefully my decision will be justified.”

Andrew added: “We all feel the timing is right. The fans are quickly responding to us and we have only been on the go for two months.

On St Patrick's Day the group will play to 60,000 people at London's Trafalgur Square, along with The Hothouse Flowers, the Coronas and the Blizzards to name but a few. After that, they will headline their own show at the Academy in Dublin on April 18.

“There is a gap in the market now for a boyband. There was a time when there was loads of them around, but not now.

“The Academy show is the big one. It's our own show and we have a few surprises in store.

We will sing some of our own stuff and it will be an energetic set, full of fun.”
