Local Dundalk band, Manifesto, performed for President Michael D. Higgins last week, at Dundalk Youth Centre.

The local musicians performed ‘My Generation’ by The Who, for President Higgins while he was officially launching the Youth Centres Art Programme last Monday, September 17.

Manifesto comprise of Jamie Cummins on vocals and lead guitar, Chris Morgan on bass, Andrew Cronin on drums and Damian Hughes on rhythm guitar.

President Higgins was delighted with the bands performance and commented that they would go far and they reminded him of his time spent working for Hot Press in the 80s.

Councillor Jennifer Green also praised their performance and wrote a message of support on their Facebook page congratulating them.

The band first came together in 2009.

Bassist Chris Morgan and frontman/guitarist Jamie Cummins had previously been involved with another band which fell apart before getting serious.

Jamie and Chris decided they would still play music together and set out to start a brand new band.

They recruited Andrew Cronin on Drums and Damian Hughes on rhythm guitar and have prospered ever since.

Manifesto has been making waves in the Irish Underage Music Scene with Highway67 Magazine hailing them as “The most outstanding young band in Ireland”.

They were the youngest band to receive a slot at the Irish music festival ‘Vantastival’ in 2011 and have played support to major acts such as Duke Special, Bipolar Empire and Thin Lizzy.

The band has performed across the country and even took to the main stage at the Volvo Ocean Race 2012 as support act for Thin Lizzy.

With a slot on a nationwide pop punk tour, a brand new EP in the pipeline and a growing hoard of fans things are looking very bright for this young Dundalk quartet.

Manifestos next performance is due to take place in Drogheda on October 26 for the New Waves Halloween gig in the Purple Room.

Tickets cost 10 euro.
