STEPHEN Englishby from Cherrybrook Ardee is the owner of Mellifont Trading which specialises in the supply of high quality digital wireless camera systems for home and vehicle use.

Stephen has said that his business is a perfect example of how the age friendly initiatives undertaken in Louth are not only helping its older population but also creating jobs.

“I was unemployed from June 2010 to October 2011, when I looked at setting up my own business selling the wireless door entry system.

“I’m now in business eight months and I’m happy to say I’m already breaking even.”

“We strive to insure that we only supply the highest quality systems to our customers,” said Stephen.

“We launched in 2011 and we have already been appointed the sole distributor in Ireland for the trailer-vision range of digital wireless vehicle camera systems.

The wireless door entry system allows a person in any room of their home to see who is at the door via a small portable screen. If they are unsure of the person at the door they can take a photograph, again via the screen.

If they are away and someone comes to the door, a photograph is taken when the doorbell is pressed.

Stephen who is now expanding his customer base throughout the country said Louth was a perfect location to set up his business.

“County Louth is my main customer base, and the county’s Age Friendly initiatives have helped me enormously. Doors opened straight away.

“I now deal with the local branch of the Irish Wheelchair Association, people with MS, people who are living alone.

“Word of mouth in Louth for age-friendly products is amazing and I have built a great reputation in a short time. I also received great support from the Garda Crime Prevention Unit.”

Mellifont Trading will also be taking part in the country’s first ever Age-Friendly Consumer Fair at Darver Castle next Sunday from 11am to 5pm.

And at that event one lucky person will be leaving with a new 400 euro Wireless Door Entry System produced by the company and donated by Stephen.

Mellifont Trading will be one of 60 age-friendly businesses taking part in the fair which will include seminars and entertainment.

Over 2,000 of Ireland’s over-50s are expected to attend the event which will further highlight Louth’s growing reputation in age-friendly services, including a growing age-friendly business community.

“I have received great support for my business so I had no hesitation in taking part,” said Stephen.

The fair which will combine seminars, entertainment and trade stands.

It’s worth a visit.
