A 32 year old man who was stopped driving while banned told gardai he would produce his driving licence at Achill Island garda station, Dundalk district court heard last week.
Peter Keogh with an address at Ardtullymore, Carlingford was prosecuted for driving without insurance, a driving licence and driving while disqualified at Monksland, Carlingford on the 27th of March last.
The court heard he also told gardai “If I have to go to jail I will go to jail”.Judge Flann Brennan was told the defendant had a number of previous convictions including eight for driving without insurance and most recently had been disqualified for five years on the fourth of July last for driving without insurance and other road traffic offences.
The defence solicitor stressed that there had been no accident involved and asked the court to consider a community service sentence.
Judge Flann Brennan adjourned the case to the ninth of January so a report could be prepared and said he was considering nine month sentence or 200 hours community service.
