Irish embassy assists family after their sudden loss

THE sudden death in the United Arab Emirates of a young Dundalk woman has caused widespread shock and sadness in the town.

Marie Gonnelly of Ashbrook Avenue Road Dundalk died at her apartment at New York University in Abu Dhabi on Friday last 4 January.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has been providing consular assistance to Marie’s family through the Irish embassy in Abu Dhabi.

Marie, who was in her early 30s was working with New York University in the UAE capital. She was assistant director at its career development centre.

She was currently on leave from her post of Careers Advisor at Dublin Institute of Technology Bolton Street.

Marie studied at University College Cork, Trinity College Dublin and NUI Maynooth.

She specialised in career learning theory, careers education, curriculum design, career guidance, training, personal counselling, interview coaching, mentoring, presenting, public relations, writing, editing.

Her talents were quickly spotted by New York University.

She also had a postgraduate honours degree in guidance and counselling from University College Cork.

An honours BA in History and English Literature from Trinity College Dublin. A counselling skills degree from NUI Maynooth.

And she was also studying careers education, information and guidance at University of Warwick.

Marie is a daughter of Patrick and Linda Gonnelly, Ashbrook Avenue Road Dundalk, sister of Caroline, Paul and Alison, a granddaughter of Michael McCormack, Navan, and girlfriend of Sean Mooney.

She is deeply and sorrowfully regretted by her parents, brother, sisters, grandfather, boyfriend, nephews Jordan and Tiernan, niece Cara, uncles, relatives and many friends.
