Ireland’s ever First Age-Friendly Consumer Fair set for Darver Castle next month

The Age-Friendly Consumer Fair will combine seminars, entertainment and trade stands, all aimed at the country’s older population.

It will be held at Darver Castle on Sunday 7 October and will provide a unique opportunity to learn about innovative products and services aimed at enhancing and securing our lives as we live longer.

Speakers on the day will include Louth’s Saorview Ambassador, Con O’Donoghue who, in the week’s before the digital switchover, will do his best to make the transition an age-friendly one.

Orlaith Carmody will offer motivation and support to those aged 50 and over who are looking for guidance in their careers.

Barrister James Egan will give some advice on wills and legal matters while Declan Murphy will speak on homecare matters.

There will also be a fashion and beauty section to the afternoon’s programme led by Tan Organic’s Noelle O’Connor.

In addition to the programme of talks, there will be more than 60 exhibitors including leading figures from caring and support services, technology, security, finance, fashion and beauty, legal matters and many more.

A vintage car exhibition, magician and face painting will make the event a family fun day for those younger in years attending the fair. Entertainment will be provided by the ever popular Paddy Cole.

The first Irish Age-Friendly Consumer Fair is led by Louth Economic Forum and their Louth Age Friendly business committee, chaired by Gavin Duffy of Dragon’s Den fame.

Louth has led Ireland’s Age-Friendly movement. It was the country’s first Age-Friendly county and received a Taoiseach’s Award for its Age-Friendly initiative.

“The response to Louth’s Age-Friendly initiatives has been astounding,” said Gavin Duffy, “and the Consumer Fair is the natural next step for the Age-Friendly Business Committee. The network has extended way beyond Louth and is extremely active.
