Inquest into death of woman (83) adjourned

An inquest into the death of an elderly woman following a road crash on the main Dundalk/Carlingford road, was opened and adjourned last week as Garda investigations are continuing.

Louth County Coroner Ronan Maguire told the family of 83 year old Mary McNally of New Road, Bellurgan that he could hear evidence of identification and brief medical evidence so a death certificate could be issued.

In a deposition, Dr. Nagmeldin Ali - a GP from the Doctor of Call Service said death was pronounced at the scene at Ballymascanlon at 7.35pm on the 10th of November last.

Mary McNally’s car was on its roof she had visible injuries to her head,the inquest heard.

Pathologist Dr. John Ryan told the hearing that cause of death was multiple injuries - mainly to the neck, chest, pelvis and lower limb.

He said the post mortem found no evidence of acute cardiac disease - or anything precipitating a cardiac event.

The inquest was also told toxicology tests were negative for alcohol and a neuropathologist in Beaumont hospital, who examined the deceased’s brain, found alzheimers-type neuropathalogical changes.

The hearing will be held in full at a later date when the Garda investigation is complete.
