Health and safety prosecution arising out of deaths of two men is adjourned

The health and safety prosecution arising out of the deaths of two men at a County Louth grain plant, has been adjourned at Dundalk Circuit Court

Two local men - Terry Brennan (19) of Knockcorr, Knockbridge and Paul Farrell (35) of Cherrywood, Tallanstown died following an accident a Drummonds’ premises in Knockbridge on the 10th of August 2009.

The company is charged with four offences of an alleged failure to manage/conduct work activities to ensure the safety of employees on that date.

The two other accused each face three similar counts.

Last Tuesday Judge Michael O’Shea was told that the trial could take two to three weeks.

Barrister John Martin - who represented Drummonds, said he didn’t know “whether it would take that long, but it would take a considerable length of time”.

He said it was a prosecution under health and safety legislation and there were “quite a lot of documents”.

Judge O’Shea said there was ‘no reality’ of the case getting to trial within the next six weeks and adjourned the matter to the next Circuit Court sitting on the 14th of January.
