Funeral of Marie Gonnelly

THE remains of the late Marie Gonnelly, Ashbrook, Avenue Road Dundalk, who died suddenly in Abu Dhabi, were flown home at the weekend.

Reposing her home from 2pm on Monday, the removal took place this Tuesday morning at 10.40am to St Patrick’s Cathedral, arriving for Mass at 11am.

Burial afterwards in St Patrick’s Cemetery.

Last week, the Department of Foreign Affairs provided consular assistance to Marie’s family through the Irish embassy in Abu Dhabi.

Marie, who was in her early 30s, was working with New York University in the UAE capital. She was assistant director at its career development centre.

She was on leave from her post of careers advisor at Dublin Institute of Technology.

Marie studied at University College Cork, Trinity College Dublin and NUI Maynooth. She specialised in career learning theory, careers education, curriculum design, career guidance, training, personal counselling, interview coaching, mentoring, presenting, public relations, writing, editing.

Her talents were quickly spotted by New York University. She also had a postgraduate honours degree in guidance and counselling from University College Cork, an honours BA in History and English Literature from Trinity College and a counselling degree from NUI Maynooth.
