FR Michael Cusack again warned people not to protect or hide the killers of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe.

St Joseph’s Redemptorist church was full on Sunday afternoon for the month’s mind Mass for the garda murdered while on duty.

Fr Cusack said nobody should “dare to pervert the course of justice, if finding justice could bring peace and resolution to ease the pain the family was being forced to endure.”

“We can insist we won’t hide people who need to be brought to justice.”

He said the turnout for month’s mind once again showed how people have been moved by the slaying of Detective Garda Donohoe and referred to the wonderful generous outpouring towards the Donohoe family, Adrian’s widow Caroline, her two young children Amy and Niall, Adrian’s parents Hugh and Peggy.

This also represented the the respect everybody had for justice and peace.

Prayers were said for the family and for the investigating garda team.

The books of condolences signed at Dundalk Garda station were brought to the church and placed on the altar during the Mass and afterwards presented to Caroline.

Fr Cusack also spoke about the difficult nature of breavement, how it can be a strange battle for both privacy and support.

It is a difficult journey, a spiritual and psychological journey, part of life’s journey, and one that can seem incomprehensible when somebody like Adrian Donohoe, who gave so much, is struck down for no reason. If there is any consolation it is the huge empathy people once again have shown to the Donohoe family.

He said the journey that has to be taken by Adrian’s family and the garda investigating team, and the garda family as a whole, was a times lonely and at times crowded but it was important not just for them but for our humanity that “justice can and will be done”.
