Former Dundalk FC manager Jim McLoughlin is grand marshal

FORMER Dundalk FC manager, the great Jim McLaughlin, will be grand marshal for the parade this year.

After a career across the water with Birmingham City, Shrewsbury Town, Swansea and Peterborough United, Jim came to Dundalk and created the most successful era in the club's long history.

In nine years at Oriel Park he led the Lilywhites to three league championships and three FAI Cup wins, including the double in 1978/79.

The club also had its most successful ever European era reaching the last 16 of the European Cup in 79/80 before going out to the great Glasgo Celtic.

They reached the last 16 in the Cup Winners Cup in 1981/82 before they were defeated by Tottenham Hotspur.

"I am very pleased and honoured to have been invited to take part in the Dundalk St. Patrick's Day Parade," said Jim.

"Sport has always been a great way of bringing people together and the organisers of this year's parade are demonstrating a real commitment to sport and culture through the mix of participants taking part in the celebrations.

"I'm really looking forward to the day."
