Foreign investment doubles in Louth and is on target to create 3,000 jobs by 2015

Since the establishment of the Louth Economic Forum it has jumped from from 4.1 to 8.8 per cent, a figure which cannot be rivalled anywhere else in Ireland with job creation figures on schedule to reach 3,000 in five years.

According to an external review the Louth Economic Forum has been instrumental in securing investment in Louth from PayPal, Prometric, Warner Chilcott and Coca Cola.

The review was presented to members of Louth County Council at its monthly meeting on Monday by Padraic White, chairman of the Louth Economic Forum.

The forum was set up by former county manager Conn Murray and is ahead of target on job creation.

It was instrumental in getting the 1,000 Paypal jobs to Dundalk.

On Monday Mr Padraic White told Louth county councillors that that no other county in Ireland has reached anything like this.

The forum set out on a 10 point economic plan for the county of Louth. Five of these plans are already up and running: Foreign Direct Investment; Sustainable Energy; Indigenous Industry; Tourism and Heritage; Education.
