Fire tears through once booming shop
A huge fire destroyed a property in the Seatown area of Dundalk on Wednesday night of last week.
The Dundalk Fire Brigade attended fire at the property, which was once named McDonald’s newsagents.
The cause of the fire was unknown at the time of going to print.
Fire services attended the scene just before 11pm. The firefighters used an ariel platform to battle against the blaze
Philip O’Brien, Assistant Chief Fire Officer said “We issued three units from the local fire service. The crew stayed at the scene for over two-and-half hours until the fire was extinguished.
“The best way I can describe the status of the building was that it was unoccupied, but not derelict.”
A Dundalk Garda spokesperson confirmed that the scene was preserved and an investigation into the fire is ongoing
McDonald’s shop was a thriving newsagents in Dundalk many years ago.
It served the needs of the local community and school children from the area visited the store for sweets.
The store then closed a number of years ago.
