Eoin Corr, a second year student in The Marist is one of 65 young bakers shortlisted for the finals of the Homecook Baking Games.

Eoin is in with a chance of winning the grand prize of 750 for himself along with a laptop and 750 for the school’s Home economics department, but he needs your votes to win.
Eoin (14), from Rockfield Court is now looking for your votes in order to get through to the next round of the competition along with seven other aspiring bakers from around Ireland.

Eoin studies Home Economics in school with his teacher Ms Rosie Reynolds who decided to enter her class into the baking competition but Eoin was the only successful applicant from not only the school but from all of Louth.

Speaking to the Dundalk Democrat, Eoin said: “My mother is a baker so it was always there in the background I suppose.”

In order to make it through to the competition Eoin baked a delicious chocolate, fig and marmalade tart, a recipe Eoin devised with the help of his mother Helen who has been working in the baking industry for a few years now.

“I was fairly shocked to get through. Everyone in the my class liked my recipe, but I didn’t expect to be choosen for the final.”
Eoin has been received a lot of support from his school mates and teachers but is now asking the people of Dundalk to vote for him, you can do so by logging on to www.homecookbakinggames.com and voting for his recipe.

“I’m a bit behind in the voting and I’m up against pupils from schools in Dublin, but I’m hoping to maybe make up some of the ground in the next week or so.”

The competition closes on the 26th of February and the final 8 will be announced on Thursday the 28th.

The competition is being organised by Easy Food Magazine and Homecook foods and the final will be held in Palmerstown, County Dublin.

The judges are Gina Miltidou, The publisher and founder of Easy Food Magazine, Kevin Dundon, Chef/proprietor of Dunbody Country Home Hotel and restaurant and cookery school and Derek O’Brien founder of the baking academy of Ireland.
