Dundalk Simon Week 2010 launch

THE County Museum in Jocelyn Street will be the venue on Monday for the launch of Dundalk Simon Community's Simon Week 2010.

Simon Week, which will run from October 4 to 10, will feature a wide range of activities and events which are planned to raise awareness of homelessness around the North East.

Speaking ahead of the launch of Simon Week, Dundalk Simon Community's Community Fundraiser Orla Kerbey said: "This year Simon Week will focus on believing in people.

"What this means in Dundalk and the North East is believing in the people that turn to Dundalk Simon Community every day, believing in our staff and volunteers, our many supporters and believing that with the right housing, care and support, people will leave homelessness behind them for good," she said.

Simon Week will also remind people that homelessness is more than not having a roof over your head or a set of keys. Often it means having related needs including physical and mental health issues and problems such as drug and alcohol use.

"With the right support we firmly believe that people can overcome these health issues and live successful and fulfilling lives," said Orla.

The launch of Simon Week will take place from 11.30am to 2pm on the Mezzanine Level in the County Museum on Jocelyn street and members of the public are invited to drop in, learn about the work that the Simon Community do and the events that are taking place from October 4-10.
