Dundalk Fire service deals with 40 blazes in the space of a week
The local fire services were called out to over 40 fires in the past week.
The high number of call outs was largely contributed to the dry weather period we've been having with a number of gorse fires in the Cooley Mountains and grass fires in the Dundalk area the most frequent causes for the call-outs.
Eighteen of the call-outs since Tuesday last were for gorse fires which were dealt with by Carlingford and Dundalk Fire Services. Among the effected areas included Grange, Claremont Cairn, the Long Woman's Grave, Glenmore, Slieve Foy and Flagstaff, where the most recent incident occurred on Monday night.
The local fire services have also had to deal with a number of grass fires in the Dundalk area with multiple incidents being reported at Saltown, St Nicholas Avenue, Boyle O'Reilly Terrace, Muirhevnamor, Castle Heights, White Rath Dromiskin and one at Coxes Demesne.
On Wednesday last Dundalk Fire Service were called to a car fire in the Mill Road in which a Mazda 6 was completely burnt out while on Friday at 9pm there was a skip fire reported on Marshes Avenue.
Ardee Fire Service dealt with a road traffic accident on the Kells Road on Monday while the same day Dundalk Fire Service assisted with a three car collision in Quay Street on the way back from dealing with a bin fire on the Ramparts Road. There was no need to use the cutting equipment during this call-out.
On Monday night Dundalk Fire Service were called to wheelie bin fires at Mill Street and Bachelor's Walk in Dundalk. The first incident outside the Realt na Mara School was at 9.45pm with the second at Bachelor's Walk occurring at 11.30pm.
On Tuesday evening Dundalk Fire Service also dealt with two field fires in the town – the first at 2pm on the Ardee Road at the rear of the bus depot and the second at 3.40pm on the Ramparts.
