Dundalk takes gold for fifth year running in Tidy Towns competition

Dundalk has won a gold medal in the National Tidy Towns competition and has also been short-listed for a national tourism award

Louth now has the finest record in the country for gold silver and bronze in the national Tidy Towns competition.

Last year’s winners Tallanstown picked up a gold medal on Monday.

This means that Dundalk, Tallanstown, and Drogheda have gold medals.

Knockbridge has a silver medal and Ardee and Blackrock both picked up a bronze this year.

Town Clerk Frank Pentony and all the staff at Dundalk Town Council were absolutely delighted when the awards were announced on Monday.

In spite of the cutbacks that the council has had to face over the past 12 months, the staff, in particular the outdoor staff, has managed to maintain a very high standard in this the toughest of the nation’s environmental competitions.

Local resident associations have also played a crucial role in maintaining the high standards.

Well done everybody.

More in next week’s Democrat.
