Dundalk RTE studio is moving to DkIT in a bid to cut costs and keep regional centres open

The national broadcasting service hopes to save a million euro by moving its regional services into third level institutions nationally

“We recognise the strategic importance to the North East region of having our national broadcaster RTÉ present and we are therefore delighted to be in a position to collaborate with them,” Mr Cummins said.

“In particular I see great benefits for our film and multimedia departments housed in the newly refurbished Carrolls building which has state of the art facilities including multimedia editing suites, TV and radio studios and of course the Bright Room, a post production facility.

“There is great potential here for future course development in collaboration with RTE.

“We have enjoyed a good relationship with the local RTE correspondent Richard Dowling for a number of years and we look forward to building on that too”.

Mr Noel Curran, Director General of RTE said the company is trying to maintain its level of content from the regions, open the organisation up to mutually beneficial partnerships and reduce costs.

“We think we’ve achieved all three in this move and we look forward to our new relationship with DkIT,” Mr Curran said.

Over the next few weeks, a joint working group will be established between DkIT and RTÉ to look at the range and potential of these new relationships.

The new plan will begin from January. RTE said this development places RTÉ at the centre of educational innovation.
