Dundalk man has a laugh at Lisbon with new book

A Dundalk man has taken a light hearted look at the Lisbon Treaty and has seen his thoughts published in a book.

Entitled '100 Reasons to Vote Yes to Lisbon II,' the book is out just in time for the critical debate that will soon sweep the nation before October 2.

Nick McGinley, 33, from Avenue Road and later the Carrick Road, decided to take a satirical look at the Treaty following last year's historic 'No' vote.

He said: "I started it in January and it took about four months to complete. It was hard to keep up to date on it because everyone has a stance on it and you have to try and keep it fresh."

Nick found one version of the Treaty that was relatively easy to understand and after reading it, he is convinced that Irish people should vote 'Yes' next month.

"It was tedious to read yet understandable. In this book, I just tried to explain it in a user friendly way as best as possible and to try and keep it humorous.

"I do not think we will have a 'No' vote this time as last year, the fear was around losing our commissioner. This year, I do not think the fear is there and if we do reject it, then we revert to the Nice Treaty."

With so little time to plug his book, Nick is happy to see that so far, the book has been a hit.
