Dundalk fighters get ready for ‘The Contender’

The Contender, a white collar boxing event, is back in Dundalk for their fourth show in four years.
White collar boxing is a form of boxing where men and women in white collar professions train to fight at special events. Most have had no prior boxing experience.
Thirty two of Dundalks white collar boxers will experience the exhilaration and excitement of stepping into the ring 1 v 1 in front of a packed house on Saturday February 23rd.
Contenders on the night include Anthony Redmond, Audrey Mackin, Barry Piper, Carrie Keenan, Cathal Douglas, Ciaran Fox, Damian Morgan, Darren Lenihan, Edel McKeown-Sloane, Eoghan Whelan, Ercan Yildirim, Gerald Trainor, Gerard O’Brien, Graham Donnelly, James Williams, Jennifer Maguire, Jim McGuirk, Kerri O’Callaghan, Kim Mackin, Leo Gallagher, Niall Clarke, Nicola Connor, Paul Birch, Phillip Donnelly, Rhonda Mackin, Ross O’Reilly, Sharon Donnelly and Sonya Larrigan.
There will also be a fantastic bout on the night between local boxers Michael Kelly and Damien Douglas.
The boxers have been training twice a week in The Irish Boxing & Fitness Academy, Dundalk under the expert guidance of Anto Donnelly, Jim O’Connor and various other top class coaches.
The contenders have definitely been put through their paces over the past few weeks with stretching and conditioning work followed by circuit training, bag work, technical training, sparring and mental preparation for the big event.
Tickets are on sale now, ringside tickets are 25 euro and standard tickets are 20 euro.
Tickets are available from Mizu Riverlane, Blade FX, Dealgan Boxing Club and McEneaney Meats. Doors open at 6pm and first fight starts at 6.30pm.
