Dundalk chamber calls for ‘big effort’ for the National Tidy Towns final report

The judges from the National Tidy Towns will visit Dundalk this month and in their final report they will award marks for the national tourism award.
Dundalk is one of 10 towns on the short-list for this award.
Over the coming days and weeks judges will be visiting Dundalk to sample what the town has to offer which will involve visiting a random selection of shops and business’s in the area.
And Dundalk Chamber of Commerce has asked people to join with them in putting the best foot forward over the coming weeks and put an extra effort in raising “the already high standards with which we deliver business services to our customers”.
The honour of being shortlisted for such an award can only be surpassed by winning it,” Mr Paddy Malone President Dundalk Chamber said.
“And the importance of the exposure the town would receive cannot be underestimated. It is credits such as this that convince organisations to invest in Dundalk and has a direct positive impact on job creation and the economic environment in the region.
“We wish to thank the people of Dundalk for their cooperation in this regard and value your efforts in positioning Dundalk and its environs as the best place in Ireland to stay in, live in and and in which to do business,” Mr Malone said. Dundalk also retained its gold medal this year. The adjudicators said well done on the Open Door Programme, an excellent initiative.
The architectural value of both older and newer buildings is apparent and the approach to the Quay Street area is admired.
The screening of the works at the corner of Crowe Street and Market Square was admired. The Town Council Offices are very much improved and the side gates are very appealing. The judges said The Market Square is now a superb piece of urban space. In the bright sunshine the installations here are at their best and the many children playing in the fountain is evidence of its success.
