Dundalk bar Brubakers set for SkySports 3D experience

DUNDALK sports fans will be able to watch their favourite footballers in 3D from next month after Brubakers was confirmed as the first local pub to show the new SkySports 3D format.

The Park Street venue's first 3D offering will be the potential Premier League title decider between Manchester Utd and Chelsea on April 3.

It comes just a number of months after Sky broadcast the world's first 3D sports event when it showed the Manchester Utd v Arsenal match at the end of January in a select number of pubs, including Fagan's in Dublin.

Brubakers manager Kevin Carthy was set to visit Bertie Ahern's local in Drumcondra last night (Tuesday) to sample the 3D experience for himself for the first time and he admitted to The Dundalk Democrat that he was excited at the prospect of it coming to Dundalk.

"We just got word about it last week," he said.

"Basically Sky business have a rep who we're in contact regularly and when I heard about it at the start of the year I made a few inquiries about getting it.

"He got back to me and said he'd keep us in mind as we were the only pub in town to express an interest and then he came back to me last week to say we could get it," said Carthy.

The local publican said he expected huge interest in the first game between Man Utd and Chelsea.

"It'll be a huge match anyway but the fact we're showing it in 3D just adds to the interest.

"We'll have a game every week though for the first six weeks and all the other big sporting events such as the World Cup, the Ryder Cup, the Champions League final and the Heineken Cup final will be shown on it too.

"I can't wait to see what it's like myself," he said.

Carthy said he expected the 3D experience to be a big draw with sports fans.

"I definitely hope it will be a big attraction. 3D is a big hit at the minute with the success of Avatar and then with the game that's in it there'll be added interest. I expect there to be a lot of hype and curiosity on the day and I'm sure a few people might even show up on the day for a nosey who have no interest in football," he said.

Brubakers will be supplying the 3D glasses free of charge for each event.
