Driver crashed after U-turn

A 24-year-old woman driver did a u-turn on a roads but then crashed into another car, Dundalk Court heard. Kathleen Byrne, Tullynahinera, Castleblayney was fined for driving without due care and attention. The incident happened on New Year’s Eve 2011.

The court heard how Gardai were in a patrol car at the Xerox junction at about 2.10pm and saw defendant’s car approaching from the Blackrock direction. The car did a u-turn on the middle of the road and was in a minor collision with another car.

The defending barrister said that a neighbouring car had flashed the lights at his client and allowed her to go. However, the next line was not clear and a minor accident had occurred. His client was fully licensed and insured. He said that the woman relied on her car for work. Judge William Hamill imposed a fine of e100
