DkIT Sports and Society’s are currently in the second week of a two week long fundraiser for the Irish Heart Foundation.

Last Thursday a few of the clubs and societies took to the Market Square for an exhibition and the members of the Fencing Club gave a great demonstration.

All proceeds raised are being donated to the Irish Heart Foundation and on purchasing a defibrillator and first aid kit for DkIT.

Barry Faulkner and Damian Whelan are the event co-ordinators and told the Democrat that they are fundraising for a whole two weeks as each society wanted to get involved and do their own fundraisers.

“Everything is being done by the students”, said Barry, “they have organised everything and have had some really great ideas on how we can raise money.”

“In the next few weeks we will have a Sports and Society calender available to buy which will feature all of the clubs and societies here at DkIT.

“All the photos were taken by the Photography Club and we are hoping to sell the calenders at around five euros.

“There are some really funny shots including a shot of the Rugby Club doing ballet poses and the Ballet Society doing a scrum.”

Barry would like to encourage everyone to give a donation no matter how small as it really helps and is greatly appreciated.

“We have a few more fundraisers coming up this week including a bucket collection around the college campus at some stage.

Barry would like this to become an annual fundraising event with the students picking a different charity to support each year.

“It’s been a real challenge to organise everything but it has also been a lot of fun and something that I hope future generations here at DkIT will keep up.”

Keep an eye out for the DkIT Sports and Society’s calender which will be coming out over the next few weeks.
