Council seek views on Aisling scheme
DUNDALK Town Council is inviting submissions for the building of 35 houses at Aisling Park which is part of the Cox’s Demesne regeneration scheme.
Cllr Harry Todd has asked that the council fully engage with local residents as the work progresses.
“Take heed of what the people are saying,” he said.
“It is vital that the council officials fully engage with local residents about this.
“This whole estate was built at a time when there was no consultation with the people who were going to live there.
“As a result proper amenities were never put in place.
“We need to ensure this will not be repeated.”
However Mr David Storey, senior executive officer, Dundalk Town Council, said the council has already fully engaged with the residents and succeeded in addressing many of the problems raised by the residents.
Since the council set up the regeneration programme, it has provided a forum for representative groups to advance the social, economic and cultural development of the area.
The Aisling Park scheme will include a community facility and also houses designed for elderly residents.
The council is expected to spend 8.5 million euro on the Cox’s scheme over three to four years.
The energy efficiency project, which was included in the first part of the regeneration project, was hugely successful and the first of its kind in the country.
The town council has also supported the Turas Counselling Service in the area.
The energy improvement works was a joint initiative by Dundalk Town Council, Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland and the ESB.
