DUNLEER will be a busy place this weekend and next week with the launch of Dunleer Christmas festival and the Wren festival at Scoriocht Lann Leire.

The Dunleer Community Development Board has organised the Christmas festival which will run from this Thursday right through nect week to Saturday 8 December.

The festival will include the traditional Santa coming to town on Thursday 6 December.

On Friday the Wren festival will take place at Féile an Dreoilín at Scoraíocht Cheile House.

As always this will be a night of family fun with children aged from five to 15 years taking to the stage to showcase talents learnt at the Scoraíocht classes.

The children make up groups and put on a ten minute piece which includes traditional music, song, dance, storytelling and of course the Wren poem.

This year they have a new competition, the Adult Fancy Dress competition and as always the Scoraíocht parents will rise to the occasion.

Scoraíocht music classes in tin whistle, bodhran, guitar and fiddle will recommence on Friday 11 January at the usual times.

Scoraíocht Lann Léire wish all their friends, students and families a very happy and peaceful Christmas. Then on Saturday the Market House will host a Christmas fair.

Tony Mallon chairman of the development board said the board agreed to run the Santa night and paid to the outgoing parade committee for their work over the years in building this event to the success it is today.The board decided to build on the success of this night by extending the Christmas activities to include a number of events.

The Christmas fair was very much a part of Dunleer life in the 60s.
