Charged in relation to burglary on parochial house
A 30 year old man charged in connection with a burglary at a local parochial house, was sentenced to 240 hours community service at Dundalk district court last week.
Thomas Smyth of Doolargy Avenue, Muirhevnamor, Dundalk was also before the court in relation to a number of other separate offences – including having drugs for sale or supply.
The court was told the defendant’s palm prints were found on a window sill at St. Patrick’s parochial house at Roden Place where a window had been forced on the 24th of July last year and while the accused denied the burglary at the time Insp. Martin Beggy said that the window was so high you would have to climb up to reach it.
The court also heard members of the local garda drugs unit recovered €1,000 worth of heroin, weighing scales and other drug paraphernalia in a house search on the 17th of December last year.
The Defence solicitor said his client found himself before the court in somewhat dramatic circumstances last December and was looking down the barrel of something serious and he reminded Judge Flann Brennan he had initially indicated the case would end up before the Circuit Court, before he reconsidered the matter in July.
The court heard that since then the accused had not come to garda attention and he is currently on a waiting list to perform community service, which was imposed four months ago.
Judge Brennan imposed 240 hours community service to run concurrent to the previous order and warned Thomas Smyth if he failed to do the work or commit any further offences he will be brought back before him.
