The Stage One New-musical Group (SONG) are proud to present their next production will be Boubil and Schonberg’s ‘The Pirate Queen’.

The musical will be performed in An Tain Theatre from Wednesday, March 20 until Saturday, March 23. All shows will be nightly and begin at 8pm.

SONG’s productions to date include Oliver (2006), Les Miserables School Edition (2007), Thoroughly Modern Musicals - A Concert (2008), Jesus Christ Superstar (2009), Jekyll & Hyde (2010), Chess (2011).

The production, which is directed by Terese Dunne, tells the story of Grainne O’Malley, who was the most notorious sea captain in Ireland.

A heroine who led an extraordinary life as a pirate, chieftain, lover and mother in 16th Century Ireland.

Her quest to protect her people and to save her one true love, embarks on a thrilling voyage that climaxes in a heated confrontation with the one woman more powerful than her, her fierce rival Queen Elizabeth I.

‘The Pirate Queen’ combines classical storytelling and a sweeping score with the powerful traditions of Irish song and dance to create a new musical event and an epic romance.

Featuring a cast of 60 performers and SONG’s award winning production team including assistant director Rosemary Winkless, musical director Patrick Dunne musical director and choreographer Carol Leavy Joyce, who worked for eight years with the world-famous Riverdance team as Irish Dance Director.

Huge interest has already been expressed in the show and it is sure to be a sell out so early booking is advised.

The whole cast have been working hard to make this production the best it can be and the show is definitely not one to miss.
